Update on Single Use Plastics Ban

From 1 February 2023, single-use plastics will be banned from sale or supply in Victoria.

The ban applies to all single-use plastic drinking straws, cutlery, plates, drink stirrers and cotton bud sticks made from conventional, degradable, and compostable plastics.

The ban also applies to food service items and drink containers made from expanded polystyrene.

The Victorian government has developed factsheets, a poster and postcard to help your business prepare for the ban.

You can also call the hotline on 1800 844 946 or email: sustainability@nra.net

Although the banned list only includes a small number of single use plastic items, we can expect further items to be banned in years to come.

We'd love to see Sandy Village cafes, restaurants, bars, clubs and any food service venues lead the way in reducing ALL single use plastics sooner rather than later.

One easy way we can do that is by encouraging customers to BYO cups, bottle and containers when ordering take away.

There are FREE posters you can download and put up at your business to help spread the message HERE.

If you have any questions or would like help with replacing your single use plastic items please email traders@sandringhamvillage.org.au
